Very poor value Tourist Trap hotel in dirty area - to expensive for what it delivers

There are positive and negative things about this hotel but my most overriding view is that it is not good value for money . This is something the hotel seems to celebrate rather than apologise for by using sky high tourist prices in amsterdam as an excuse for its failings As I arrived the day before kings day I pulled up on a very busy Main Street . I knew straight away I had made a mistake The area is dismal with rubbish piles in the parking places. I had to either park on top of or move them myself. The chap was very pleasant on check in but the reception is dark and soulless it felt and looked like a low budget hotel in defiance of its sky high prices The 2nd floor room as others commented were up very steep narrow stairs . Don’t underestimate these if you have older travellers The room was nice enough with a newly refurbished bathroom and bubble bath I think the balcony shot on the website though made the balcony look a lot bigger and a lot more pleasant than it actually is . In reality it’s a tiny little thing with a table barely big enough to sit a plate. A bit of ragged cloth hangs above it and it’s over a busy grey street with a view of the rubbish dumped below We had coffee in the garden are below. This looked lovely on the website. With flowers on the table it looked light and spacious . Reality was an unkempt yard , scrappy looking and hadn’t been cleaned for some time The housekeeping was good , the rooms were clean . The manager pleasant. And helpful and carried all our bags to the room . There is free tea and coffee in the foyer .The location for trams was good too. The noise from the trams not as bad as expected .And CV it was an easy walk to Anne franks house and Jordan But the hotel to my mind still was low budget masquerading as high class Now I know we visited over kings day when prices are sky high but the hotel receptionist was rather smug that we had been caught in this honey trap. I could have stayed in a 4 star Boutique hotel in the south of the city for the same price I found the hotel acceptable but it did not deliver in price point at all . It felt and looked like a cheap budget hotel and charged as a high class one . At the very least they should clean up the street outside and make the garden look as pleasant as it does on the management photos Staying at this hotel spoiled our trip . And my image of amsterdam which I now see as a huge tourist trap which celebrates the ability to empty unsuspecting tourists pockets as efficiently as possible , and then scoffs at our disappointment There are probably better places in the city to stay to deliver more value for money It was to much money for to little and throwing up your arms and saying it’s Kings day , what do you expect! Well it doesn’t make it any better My response to that is “ bad reviews well what do you expect ?

Just come back from a lovely 3 night stay at the alp hotel ! The hotel was warm and cosey we was on the 3rd floor room was perfect didt think the stairs was as bad as I was expecting didn’t put me off would definitely return , hotel staff couldt do enough for us , location is brilliant lovely little area , thank u to tahir, Berat & also the cleaner

Amazing hotel 10 minutes from centre on a tram there's a lot close to the hotel cafes coffee shops restaurants supermarket right beside hotel, the staff are very helpful, clean rooms, garden out the back, big balconies in some of the rooms all nalcomt.im others but there's a table and chairs on all of the balconies, hot tub in the bathroom with music lights etc, TV in the room kettle cups glasses and they give clean towels everyday

Room was small, but we knew that before we arrived. Didn't think it was quite that small. It was clean. Staff is friendly. I did hear them tell someone to not smoke in the building. Great location. Learn the Tram system and you will be great! They carried my huge heavy bag up two flights of tiny steps. No elevator. I would probably check around elsewhere if I stayed in Amsterdam again, but might go back.

Stayed here for 4 nights after it was recommended by a friend. It's in a fantastic spot, tram stop right outside the door. We booked a triple room with a garden balcony with a view of the garden. It was lovely to be able to sit and relax each evening after the hassle and bustle of sightseeing all day. It's Amsterdam so be prepared for very steep steps and pretty small rooms, but that's the city overall unless you stay in a new building. Our room had everything you need, plus the selection of shower gel etc in the bathroom was brilliant. I have to mention the staff, they're brilliant. One man in particular, didn't get his name, but he checked us in, gave loads of helpful tips about the area, tram times etc, and went that extra mile when we needed to stay an extra night due to a cancelled flight.
